Discover Rediscovery

A couple of weekends ago I was out at the Sustainable Environment Fair in the Botanic Gardens and I discovered the Rediscovery Centre, an interesting project that combines recycling with community development. They’re doing a lot of great things at the Rediscover Centre, including a furniture recycling project that’s part of the Ballymun Regeneration initiative.

They brought out several amazing pieces to the fair, with quality and value far superior to soon-to-be neighbors, Ikea. On offer: a Danish, mid-century modern dining table and four chairs for only €170, a huge, solid wood sideboard and china cabinet painted white for €80, and lots of other reasonably priced pieces. I have no business purchasing furniture, so I left empty handed. But I must insist that you call into the Rediscovery Centre before you think of buying anywhere else. Give them a ring and they’ll let you know what’s in stock.

After checking out their website, I found out they also do rediscovered fashion. I’ll definitely keep my eye open for any future dress making courses and would love to check out some of the designs in the showroom. Check the collection made from old fabric pieces and curtains, a la Scarlet O’Hara.
