What to Wear When You’re Expecting

Dressing for two isn’t always easy. Here’s how I’m managing to stay cute, comfy and on budget.

What to Wear in the 1st Trimester on StylebyNumbers.info

The key to the 1st Trimester is comfort and easing into your new body. So many tiny changes are happening, you’ll feel like you’re showing much more than you really are. Depending on how Morning sickness hits you, comfort will be key. Every gal changes at her own pace, but chances are you won’t be growing too much during the first 3 months. If you do need to shop, try loose fitting tops and dresses in one or two sizes larger than you might normally get. Always think ahead–Can you naturally grow into it? Will it be useful post-pregnancy? Will it make you feel lovely?

Oh the joys of a growing bump! In the 2nd trimester you’ll be mixing and matching your pre-existing wardrobe with new maternity pieces. Stretchy pants will be your saving grace, and you’ll wonder how you ever existed without them! Who needs zippers anyway. At the beginning, you’ll feel big then small then big again…and toward your 6th month you’ll wonder how it’s possible for you to keep growing (but know one more trimester is on its way!) Here’s how I mixed it up and tried to stay true to my personal style during month’s 4-6.

There’s a point at the end of the 2nd trimester when you think, “That’s it, this bump can’t get any bigger.” But you’re wrong. The growth is extraordinary during the 3rd trimester, particularly as the fundus grows higher and higher (up until around 38 weeks). For me, 3rd trimester dressing has oscillated between curvy bump-hugging jersey and the most comfortable, loose clothes I can find. It just depends on the day and the weather. It is the beginning of the end, but after 30+ weeks, you’ll start to wonder how you’ll go back to your normal wardrobe.
